n September 1, 2024, Makena Mugambi joined our staff as the Marketing & Communications Coordinator!
After completing her undergraduate B.A. in Communication at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, Makena returned to her home country Kenya in the summer of 2023 and shortly after, took up part-time consulting for The Humanity Share (THS). She worked with the Kenya and US team to help expand the education program and assist in administrative tasks at the Kenya office in Kajiado. From the beginning, Makena fit in with our staff and quickly became a great addition to the team!
Throughout the last year, Makena has played an integral role in organizing the systems and process of the education program's yearly cycles (ie., University Scholarship Application, Secondary School admissions, annual mentorship conferences), provided great assistance to the workflow in the head office, and launched a university alumni program. Makena is passionate about working with young people and her enthusiasm for empowering young women has added value to the lives of our high school girls and university scholars. Her transition to a full-time position comes at a timely point for the organization as we experience a rapid growth of our programs.
In her new role, Makena will be working in the Marketing & Communications department of the organization and continue to oversee the university alumni program. As The Humanity Share grows, we recognize the value of having communication that continues to capture the work and impact happening in our various partner communities. As part of THS team, Makena will provide her expertise in strategic marketing & communication, administrative processes, and continue to serve as a mentor and support for the young ladies. We are excited to see our team growing and expectant for the continued impact we will experience in the communities we serve.
