new cycle of university applications is underway!
Since mid-May, our college and university going students have been passing through the Kenya office to collect their applications for the new school year that begins in September. This year we anticipate having a total of 59 girls at the undergraduate level! A 37% increase from 2023!
Their undergraduate learning can take different forms including: training certificates, two year diplomas, or a four year bachelor degree. We have students that are in different programs taking courses in medicine, computer science, health & nutrition, hairdressing, food & hospitality, education, and business. During the new school year, there will also be students going through attachments (internships) in different organizations and companies around the country. With each new year, we see a growth in our university program at The Humanity Share. Last year, we saw the largest cohort of secondary students complete high school and we are eager to support and walk with them into their next level of education. The university scholarship applications that each of the girls fills out is reviewed annually by our THS team in Kenya & the U.S..
Part of the university cycle is a Leadership Summit that is held for the students in August. The positive impact of our holiday conferences on secondary students during their April and December breaks has led us to believe that our university students would also benefit from mentorship. Last year, the university Leadership Summit was the first of its kind and it was an impactful time of building community, hearing from various speakers concerning the stage of life they are in, and making memories as fellow scholars. We are excited for the second annual summit that will be taking place this upcoming August. Following the summit, a scholarship is awarded to the students at the beginning of September to cover their tuition and housing across the school year based on the application submissions they make.
We are looking forward to rallying together as an organization in supporting our college and university students this year and seeing the continual impact this level of education is making in their lives and communities.
